Molho apimentado (Hot sauce)

by Camila Souza
Molho apimentado is a vibrant and zesty Brazilian hot sauce that perfectly complements hearty dishes. Made with fresh tomatoes, onions, green bell peppers, and a splash of vinegar, it offers a refreshing crunch with an adjustable kick of heat. It is traditionally served alongside feijoada, using a splash of the bean broth to tie the flavors together.

Method

  1. Mix the minced onion, chopped tomatoes, minced green bell pepper, vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, and salt together in a bowl.
  2. Add water if the vinegar taste is too strong.
  3. Just before serving, add 1/2 cup of feijoada liquid and 1 or 2 finely chopped malagueta peppers.

Notes:

Author's note: I usually do not add the malagueta peppers but use a few drops of the feijoada liquid instead. Vegan note: Ensure the feijoada liquid used is from a vegan feijoada (a plant-based black bean stew), as traditional feijoada contains pork and beef.
