Rune-Christoffer has been elected Chair for the term 2025–

Rune-Christoffer is a Danish anthropologist specializing in the interconnections between sustainability, climate change, agriculture, and food systems. He has previously served as an Assistant Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of Copenhagen and as an External Lecturer in Sustainable Food Systems at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad. Additionally, he has conducted extensive field research on agricultural development in Eastern Africa and food consumption patterns in India.

A lifelong vegetarian, Rune-Christoffer began volunteering with the Vegetarian Society of Denmark in 2011. Since 2016, he has been Executive Director, guiding its transformation into a professional organization. Under his leadership, the organization has focused on promoting structural change through political advocacy and strategic collaborations with other organizations such as green NGOs, as well as organizations representing organic farmers, conventional farmers, the food industry and consumers.

Rune-Christoffer and the organization took several strategical initiatives in Denmark, which involved many other stakeholders, from farmer’s associations to businesses. This paved the way for a landmark deal between the Government and Parliament, which in 2021 resulted in 675 million DKK (later increased to approx. 1,3 billion DKK) earmarked a fund for initiatives to develop the plant-based sector in Denmark through the Plant-Based Food Grant. Rune-Christoffer is currently a Board Member of the Plant-Based Food Grant for the first term (2023-2027). With the deal it was also decided that Denmark should have a National Action Plan for Plant-Based Foods, and this was launched in 2023, being the world’s first of its kind.

Rune-Christoffer frequently travels around the world to share best-practices on plant-based policy work and building collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
