Juliet Gellatley is the founder and
director Viva! Vegetarians International Voice for Animals - an international
organisation based in the UK, Poland and the USA and launched in 1994.
Viva! Is a vegetarian and vegan group which campaigns energetically to
end the abuse of farmed animals, exposes how eating animals is ravaging
the planet and helps people change.
Juliet has launched numerous successful campaigns and some of the most detailed investigations into factory farming in the UK. Viva! spent two years filming pig farms, investigating slaughter and was the first to expose how ducks are farmed. Five months later, all UK supermarkets had removed Barbary duck meat. Viva! worked tirelessly through the foot and mouth crisis - doing demonstrations and photocalls across Britain, as well as distributing more than a million flyers to the public.
As a consequence of her work against the exotic meats trade, Juliet was given the Australian Wildlife Protection Council's annual award for outstanding achievement in protecting Australia's wildlife in 1998 and in 1999, she won the Daily Mirror's first Linda McCartney Animal Welfare Award (part of the Pride of Britain awards). Juliet is the author of the widely acclaimed books The Silent Ark, the Livewire Guide to Going, Being and Staying Veggie and Born to be Wild.
