11th World Vegetarian Congress 1947 - Excursions
Excursions.
With a view to giving visitors from abroad a general idea
of the nature of the Cotswold country, a delightful afternoon's motor
excursion in the vicinity of Stonehouse was planned by Mr. Sibly. After
passing through Nailsworth, a halt at the Roman camp at Uley Bury, with
its magnificent hilltop setting, presented a delightful vista of the
richly wooded hills and charming valleys of one of the best sections
of the Cotswolds.
A longer excursion, with a visit to Gloucester Cathedral and Tewkesbury
Abbey (where lunch was taken on the Abbey lawn), was to Stratford-on-Avon,
returning by way of the Cotswold villages of Broadway, Stanton and Stanway
and over Cleeve Hill (the highest point in the Cotswolds), and Birdlip
Hill.
The final excursion was in the nature of a walk over the hills in the
direction of Pitchcombe, where, through the kindness of Miss E. M. C.
Little, of " Resthaven," delegates and friends were provided
with afternoon tea.
