Alexandra J. "Sandy" Santilli
1942 – August 9, 2017
A gifted artist, Sandy earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UMass Dartmouth, a foundation that shaped her creative and compassionate approach to life. She dedicated 35 years to public service at the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, retiring after a distinguished career across various offices throughout the state.
Beyond her professional life, Sandy was a woman of remarkable spirit and vitality. A bronze medalist in roller-skate dancing, she embraced an active life that included rollerblading and kayaking. Her joy for movement was matched only by the depth of her convictions: Sandy was a staunch animal rights activist and devoted advocate for a vegan lifestyle. She traveled the world repeatedly to attend and support international vegan events, including the International Vegetarian Union's World Vegetarian Congress, carrying her message of compassion to every corner of the globe.
Sandy had a loving spirit and a rare gift — she made it feel truly possible to imagine a kinder, more just world. Her warmth, her dedication, and her vision will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Cicone of Warren, R.I.; her son, Jeffrey Cicone and his wife Lisa of Bedford; her cherished grandchildren, Lexia and Ella Cicone; her brother, Franklin Santilli of East Bridgewater; her sister, Jeanne Fiske and her husband Peter of Windham, Maine; and by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life
All are warmly welcome to Sandy's Celebration of Life at the East Bridgewater Commercial Club on September 19th, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., where a vegan buffet will be served in her honor.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Farm Sanctuary or the Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM).
