Method

  1. PREPARATION
  2. Tofu should be cut into bite-size cubes. After that, slice one tomato and purée the other.
  3. Prepare the braised sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine 12 tablespoons of filtered water, 4 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon chili sauce, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil, and 1/3 teaspoon salt.
  4. If desired, season with ground pepper and paprika. Stir rapidly to completely dissolve the braised sauce.
  5. Note: With this Vegan Braised Tofu with Tomato recipe, I enjoy spicy food, so I added a lot of chili sauce, paprika, and pepper; if you're not a fan of spicy food, you can omit the spicy seasonings!
  6. INSTRUCTION
  7. Begin by combining the tofu, tomatoes, and braised sauce in a saucepan over low heat and bringing it to a simmer.
  8. When the braised liquid begins to drain, so the tofu has absorbed all of the flavors. Turn off the heat and garnish with scallions.
  9. Note: People frequently braise by first sautéing onions and garlic in cooking oil, then adding the remaining ingredients one by one. In this case, I braise all of the ingredients together, avoiding the need for cooking oil.
  10. Additionally, this is a very rapid way of cooking for a delectable and high-quality vegetarian braise, as the tofu is still soaked in the rich braised sauce.
