Method

  1. Thoroughly wash the green bell pepper. Remove the core, seeds, and inner membranes, then chop it into medium-sized chunks.
  2. Prepare the garlic by peeling and coarsely chopping it.
  3. Place the prepared green pepper, garlic, and salt into a food processor fitted with a steel blade. If you prefer a spicy kick, add the seeded and diced jalapeño at this stage.
  4. Pulse the mixture, stopping frequently to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula, until the relish reaches a rather smooth and uniform consistency.
  5. Taste the relish and adjust the seasoning if necessary, then transfer to a small bowl to serve immediately alongside your favorite spicy dishes or warm flatbread.

Notes:

Pro-Tips for the Perfect Relish:
  • Texture Control: If you prefer a crunchier relish, pulse the food processor fewer times. For a sauce-like consistency, process for a longer duration.
  • Storage: Because this uses fresh ingredients, it is best served immediately. If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for no more than 24 hours to maintain the freshness of the peppers.
  • Spiciness: The heat intensity of jalapeños can vary greatly. Taste a small piece of the chile first, and add it sparingly if you are sensitive to heat.
