Method
- Pour the fava beans along with their liquid into a medium saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil.
- Lower the heat and simmer, using a fork or potato masher to crush the beans until they reach a thick, rustic consistency similar to refried beans.
- Stir in the olive oil and cumin. Continue to cook over low heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Add chili powder according to your preferred heat level and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Divide into serving bowls and garnish with the fresh chopped tomatoes, onions, and chili peppers. Serve hot with fresh bread for scooping.
