Method

  1. Clean and trim the fresh green beans, ensuring they are uniform in size.
  2. Bring the salted water to a boil, add the beans, and simmer until just tender, approximately 30-45 minutes.
  3. Drain the beans thoroughly and transfer them to a warm serving dish.
  4. In a small saucepan, combine the peanut oil, mashed garlic, cumin, paprika, and cloves over medium heat, cooking for two minutes while stirring constantly to bloom the spices.
  5. Add the slivered almonds to the oil mixture and stir briefly to coat them evenly.
  6. Pour the seasoned oil and almond mixture over the prepared green beans, toss gently to coat, and serve immediately while warm.

Notes:

For the best texture, use fresh, firm green beans rather than canned. The spice balance is key, so ensure the garlic doesn't burn during the two-minute infusion; if it begins to brown too quickly, lower the heat. You can toast the slivered almonds in a dry pan for an extra minute before adding them to the oil for a deeper, nuttier flavor.
