Scrambled Tofu Curry

Tried my hand at this for the first time last night, and then again this morning. (I used too much cayenne pepper the first time!)

  • 1/2 lb extra firm tofu, drained & pressed for 15 minutes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida (optional, since there are onions)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup frozen peas
  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp butter (optional)
I ground the salt with the spices and mashed up the tofu while I sauteed the onion in the oil+butter at high heat. Once the onions had begun to brown, I added the tofu, peas, salt and spices and stirred until the tofu was coated in spice and oil. I reduced the heat to medium, and turned the mixture infrequently for about ten minutes.
