"Los humanos son primero!" Quienes hagan esta declaración, demuestran dos cosas: Primero que nada, que no saben de lo que están hablando, segundo, no son de los que en realidad se preocupan por la gente: Quien en realidad se preocupa por la gente, también, se preocupa por los animales, y quien se preocupa por los animales, también se preocupa por la gente. La ética no es divisible. Los humanos son primero, es un pretexto barato y mezquino para no hacer nada, ni por los animales, ni para la gente. En realidad, el movimiento de los derechos de los animales y humanos son una unidad. No podemos liberar esclavos o emancipar a la mujeres o aceptar a los homosexuales o proteger a los animales. Simplemente debemos darnos cuenta: Los intereses de una criatura no deben contar menos, solo porque es una criatura de diferente grupo. En la vida real la división de las tareas es razonable y obvia, como en el sector de actividades no lucrativas. Por eso es no hay nada de malo si algunas personas se concentran en los intereses de los animales. Como declara justamente Gotthard M. Teutsch, no le puedes reprochar a una sociedad de un museo, diciendo, que están preocupados por el arte antiguo pero no por la gente anciana! En cualquier caso, en muchas áreas el amor por los humanos y por los animales se llevan muy bien juntos. Por ejemplo, nadie afecta su compromiso con la gente no matando o comiendo animales! Además, este absoluto de establecer prioridades como "los humanos son primero" es absurdo e irresponsable. Miremos la declaración: "Tenemos más responsabilidad por nuestros camaradas que por los extranjeros." A lo mejor podemos aceptar eso como una regla de conducta en caso de conflicto. Pero no seria, como dice Teutsch, completamente absurdo ayudar a los extranjeros solo si todas las necesidades de nuestros compañeros están satisfechas! También sería absurdo decir: " Daré dinero para los niños muriendo de hambre en Africa solo cuando todos mis hijos tengan su propio televisor." O tomemos la prioridad verdaderamente sensata: "El sobrevivir es mas importante que la igualdad." Aun aquí, seria irresponsable una declaración absoluta. Inmediatamente, se darán cuenta, que los reproches como este son insostenibles: " Como podemos luchar por la igualdad de la mujer habiendo gente en Africa matándose entre si!" Las prioridades absolutas son tontas e inhumanas como fácilmente notaran. Tampoco es cuestión de prioridades abstractas, sino en donde seamos confrontados directamente con el sufrimiento e injusticia. Llegando a la escena de un accidente estaría fuera de lugar decir: "Desgraciadamente no puedo ayudar, porque en otra parte hay accidentes mucho mas terribles!" Obviamente debemos actuar y ayudar donde nos confrontemos con el sufrimiento e injusticia.
