El mismo hotel encargado del servicio de comidas durante el histórico VII Festival Vegano Internacional, celebrado en 1993, ofreció un excelente y atractivo buffet de comida vegana, sin productos de origen animal, como requiere un encuentro de esta naturaleza. El apoyo del Ayuntamiento de Tossa de Mar, favoreció la presencia de los medios de comunicación, ya que gracias al alcalde se prohibieron las corridas de toros en esta atractiva localidad de la Costa Brava, que cuenta con un refugio de animales abandonados dirigido por Chari Cruz, y una tienda de APAP, que ofrece camisetas y artículos con un mensaje a favor de los animales. ![photo](https://ivu.org/images/legacy/history/news/2-97/prisossa.jpg)Durante la conferencia un número de personas de distintos países presentaron varias ponencias: [Francisco Martín](https://ivu.org/international-vegetarian-union/resources/interviews/5858-spanish-members-council-francisco-martin.html) (España), Secretario General de la Unión Vegetariana Internacional (IVU) y presidente de la Asociación Vegana Española (AVE), destacó las ventajas de una dieta sana en beneficio de los animales, las personas y el medio ambiente. Vicki Moore, (Gran Bretaña), describió su grave cogida por un toro durante la filmación de una fiesta popular en España, y explicó como logró salvarse milagrosamente, esta experiencia tan traumática no ha impedido, sin embargo, a su organización, FAACE (Lucha Contra la Crueldad hacia los Animales en Europa) continuar su campaña en pro de los animales. Stéphanie Dartinet, habló de la labor de la Asociación Mundial para la Protección de los Animales (WSPA) y destacó la importancia del trabajo que llevan a cabo los grupos locales en sus respectivos países. Otros temas tratados fueron el Congreso Vegetariano Europeo que tendrá lugar en Bussolengo, Italia, entre el 21 y el 26 de Septiembre de 1997, las ventajas del crudivorismo, y la situación actual de la legislación española en materia de protección animal. Finalmente, Priscilla Cohn (Ferrater Mora), que acudió al Encuentro procedente de Pensilvania, presentó las bases de la campaña para lograr que los animales sean tratados como seres sensibles. El Encuentro contó con una amplia cobertura de los medios de comunicación y consiguió unir a los activistas a favor de la campaña para reformar el Código Penal y lograr que cualquier acto de crueldad sea condenado y cesen las corridas de toros y otras atrocidades. La Asociación Vegana Española (AVE) también propició la creación de una red de apoyo para difundir los principios del veganismo y la defensa de los derechos del animal en España y Portugal, a través de nuevas delegaciones de AVE en Alcoy, Barcelona, Mallorca, Valladolid y Oporto. - **La Convocatoria del Encuentro (Español)** --- Toda contribución a IVU News será bienvenida.
