Vegetarische Initiative informa de la reducción en un 10 % del consumo de carne en Alemania desde 1988 y cita una encuesta realizada por la revista Stern que muestra que dos tercios de los encuestados opinaban que reducir el consumo de carne era una acción positiva y justificada, una tendencia que es de creciente preocupación para la industria cárnica alemana. El hecho de que esta tendencia era menos evidente en la antigua Alemania Oriental demostraba que las campañas publicitarias durante un periodo mayor en la parte occidental habían tenido su fruto.
