When a westerner detects the sale of horse flesh, cat, or dog flesh, it is particularly distressing to him. Yet the sale of worn-out horses is increasing in many countries to be tinned for dog-meat. Here in India, the Mother Cow is a sacred symbol of all that is holy - the great nourisher. Yet here in India, outrage is done by the slaughter of these gentle creatures for food. *Conscience* in commenting on the horror Australians felt in the discovery of the sale of horse flesh, said: "*Conscience* quite understands the horror felt by Australians that their loved comrade and friend, the horse, should be slaughtered for food. In India, the cow and bullock are the comrade and friend of man, and a most superior type of animal is this deeply revered Indian cow. In western countries, all know the devotion given by the dog to his master and the protection the master gives to his devotee. practically all the world respects the monkey for his physiological likeness to man. "Yet there are countries in which one or more of these beloved friends are put to torture and death. The whole world has still to realize that in every animal there is that One Life, the form of which is sacred to life and should be protected by life." | ![](https://ivu.org/images/legacy/history/congress/wvc57/souvenir/lamb.jpg) A note on this archive. The history section of this website is drawn from a body of legacy content originally compiled by John Davis, former manager of the International Vegetarian Union. It represents his curation of historical material, and in places includes passages written by him directly. Over the years, the IVU website has migrated between several different hosting servers. In the course of these migrations, a number of PDF files were unfortunately lost, and **some links to PDF documents may no longer function**. Where this is the case, we have chosen to leave the original link text in place, as it may itself carry information of historical value. - Hits: 1139 ### Vegan Recipes - [![Moroccan Pumpkin and Lentils](https://ivu.org/media/zoo/images/moroccan-pumpkin-and-lentils-1775427121_02f41f3eb23b16aaece5b462cdd852c2.jpg "Moroccan Pumpkin and Lentils")](https://ivu.org/vegan-recipes-around-the-world/vegan-food-academy/front-page/item/moroccan-pumpkin-and-lentils.html "Moroccan Pumpkin and Lentils") #### [Moroccan Pumpkin and Lentils](https://ivu.org/vegan-recipes-around-the-world/vegan-food-academy/front-page/item/moroccan-pumpkin-and-lentils.html "Moroccan Pumpkin and Lentils") [Main course](https://ivu.org/vegan-recipes-around-the-world/vegan-food-academy/front-page/category/main-course-for-lunch-and-dinner.html) [Soups](https://ivu.org/vegan-recipes-around-the-world/vegan-food-academy/front-page/category/soup.html) [Morocco](https://ivu.org/vegan-recipes-around-the-world/vegan-food-academy/front-page/category/morocco.html) [African](https://ivu.org/vegan-recipes-around-the-world/vegan-food-academy/front-page/category/african.html) -
