He attended the University of Aberdeen 1958 - 62, and graduated with a B Sc, Hons in Natural History. Thoroughly undistinguished career teaching biology and general science in several secondary schools in rural Aberdeenshire. George took early retirement in 1990, at the age of 50 from his post as a biology teacher. He was actively involved in a political party (Scottish National Party) 1965 - 88, and became vegetarian around 1982, vegan 1992; member Vegetarian Society UK since 1992. George runs an information centre for The Vegetarian Society and is local contact for the Vegan Society UK as well as its Chair. He became active in Humanist Society of Scotland in early 90's and was its Hon Secretary from 1995 - 2000 with a particular interest in Humanist ceremonies; he is personally active as a ceremony officiant (mostly funerals). UK Vegan Society Council member since 1994; special interest in Local Contacts, organising training days in 97 & 99. He was elected Chair of Vegan Society Council December 1999 and has been in the role since.
