Between 1984 and 1990 he studied at Manchester University, Bolton Institute of Higher Education and Salford University. He currently lectures in social science with the Open University as well as studying with the OU. Since 1979 he has been a member of Salford City Council and is currently in charge of the Council's finances, information systems, administration and customer services.
