A resolution passed during the Congress:

October - Reverence for Life Month

Because:

  • billions of our fellow animals are abused and slaughtered each year for human consumption
  • millions of people die each year of chronic disease associated with consumption of animal flesh
  • our soil, water, forests and other vital and largely irreplaceable natural resources are being destroyed by the insatiable demands of agriculture
  • vegetarianism represents the only effective solution to these crucial problems that threaten our very existence

be it therefore resolved that the International Vegetarian Union proclaims that October of each year henceforth shall be known as Reverence for Life Month.

Dates in October:
1 - World Vegetarian Day
2 - Anniversary of Gandhi's birth
4 - The Feast of St.Francis of Assisi (the nearest Sunday to this is World Day of Prayer for Animals)
16 - World Food Day
24 - United Nations Day
