Aí vão algumas dicas que podem ajudar.         **Formigas em casa / no trabalho**    São inofensivas e estão somente à procura de algo doce quando invadem nossas casas. Portanto, guarde todo açúcar, geléias, mel, bolos, etc. em potes ou latas bem fechadas. Passe pano nas superfícies da cozinha com uma solução meio a meio de vinagre químico e água. Descubra por onde as formigas estão entrando e bloqueie os buracos e frestas mais óbvios. Borrife nos locais por onde elas costumam entrar: pimenta e/ou páprica e/ou hortelã-pimenta seca ou ainda poejo. Nós também sabemos que elas não gostam de pés de café, e se estes forem plantados, por exemplo, em seu local de trabalho, as formigas evitarão andar por todo o ambiente. Louro em pó ou ramos de poejo perto das bordas de copos ou em cantos da casa também serve para intimidá-las.        **Pássaros em plantações**    Se aves estiverem pousando em meio aos seus brotos (por exemplo, de alface), você pode detê-las com bonecos de falcões (disponíveis em muitas lojas para jardins), espantalhos, faixas de plástico colorido ou folhas de estanho penduradas em barbantes para balançarem com o vento. Não amarre linhas de nylon ou mesmo de algodão perto de suas carreiras de plantas ou sementes, pois os passarinhos podem se estrangular ou perder uma pata.        **Gatos de rua**    Eles podem fazer uma bagunça em seu jardim se acharem que é um bom lugar pra usarem como banheiro. Tente o seguinte: coloque jarras de água entre os canteiros ou fileiras de plantas, regadores ligados (e se possível, girando) ao redor de suas plantas mais preciosas, e, conforme alguns sugerem, coloque um pedaço de mangueira ou cano pintado no gramado para amedrontar os gatos, que se enganam achando que é uma cobra.         **Pulgas e Carrapatos**    Dê levedura de cerveja e alho pros animais. Assim, evite que carrapatos e piolhos lhes parasitem. Erva-doce, arruda e alecrim repelem pulgas.         **Raposas**    Raposas urbanas podem ser um incômodo em quintais e podem ser uma ameaça a animais pequenos como coelhos e preás. O telefone de Bem-Estar Nacional das Raposas (dos EUA) também pode ser útil: 01933 411 996.        **Garças em criadouros intensivos de peixes**    Um boneco de plástico de outra garça, se colocado ao lado de seu lago de peixes poderá deter as garças reais para que não comam os peixes, pois elas vão supor que o território já está ocupado por outras da mesma espécie e voarão em busca de outro lugar pra pescar.         **Moscas domésticas**    Experimente colocas vasos de ervas frescas ao redor de casa, ou mantenha ervas secas no tempo frio. Erva água-de-colônia, poejo, alecrim, arruda, timo e tanaceto devem afastar as moscas.         **Ratos**    Procure armadilhas mais humanas para ratos, como as disponíveis em petshops. As armadilhas em questão não matam o rato, e você poderá soltá-lo longe de sua propriedade sem maltratá-lo. Você terá de soltá-lo a um quilômetro de distância, senão ele poderá achar o caminho de volta. Você deve inspecionar regularmente as armadilhas senão o rato poderá morrer de sede, o que seria mais cruel que assassiná-lo numa ratoeira convencional. Lembre-se de guardar as armadilhas de modo a evitar que outros animais entrem acidentalmente nelas quando você não as estiver usando.        Uma longa lista de armadilhas apropriadas pra muitos animais pequenos como camundongos, esquilos, martas, raposinhas e pombos, pode ser obtida dos provedores comerciais: diferentemente do TripTrap (a armadilha mais comum pra veganos pegarem ratos), a caixa pegará muitos de uma vez só, e assim pode ser mais útil se você estiver com problemas sérios.         Impedimentos sonoros, que emitem freqüências altas demais pra seres humanos ouvirem, mas que são desagradáveis pra roedores e outros animais, estão se tornando cada vez mais disponíveis.         Se você não tem gatos em casa, seria bom "pegar emprestado" um ou mais gatos de amigos e vizinhos e deixar que eles desbravem a sua casa por um período, e o faro do (s) gato (s) poderá desfazer os "estabelecimentos" e ninhos dos ratos.         **Mosquitos**    Um pouco de alfazema ou óleo de citronela espanta mosquitos. Também sabemos que insetos que picam são atraídos pelos contrastes entre cores, portanto, se você tem pele clara, se vista de roupas claras, se tem pele escura, vista roupas escuras quando houver mosquitos por perto. \[Nota do tradutor: Repelentes, ao contrário de inseticidas, não matam esses insetos, mas apenas fazem com que não piquem você. Quando o vento movimentar o cata-vento as toupeiras ficarão incomodadas pela vibração.         **Traças nas roupas**    Coloque lascas de madeira de cedro ou sachês de alfazema em meio às roupas.         **Vespas**    De fato, desempenham um papel importante em manter o equilíbrio da natureza sendo predadores de outros insetos pestilentos e não são nocivas por natureza. Não atacam humanos a menos que sejam provocadas, e, infelizmente, muitas pessoas entram em pânico quando ouvem o zunido das asas, balançando os braços ao redor (tentando espantar as vespas). Com isso, estão praticamente pedindo pra serem picadas. Relaxe.
