No entanto, não têm sido realizadas muitas pesquisas para investigar dietas vegetarianas ou curas naturais no tratamento de doenças. Em algumas pesquisas sobre dieto-terapia ou jejum combinado com dieta vegetariana no tratamento de diversas doenças observou-se que uma dieta vegetariana não ajuda e que o jejum proporciona somente um alívio temporário. Tem-se concluído que esta terapia não tem valor. Estas investigações têm sido realizadas por médicos que não compreendem os princípios naturais de cura e não contam com suficientes estudos de dieto-terapia. Uma dieta vegetariana pode ser balanceada e saudável mas se for desbalanceada pode não ser melhor do que uma dieta mista. Esta pesquisa é, portanto, fraudulenta já que cura natural e dieto-terapia só podem ser pesquisadas por pessoas que tenham compreensão, conhecimento e qualificações. Desde os anos 30 e 40, quando Are Waerland viajou pelo país dando aulas de saúde, existe na Suécia um forte movimento pró-saúde. Ele afirmava que uma dieta à base de carnes, sal, leite pasteurizado, açúcar e grãos refinados produz doenças. Disse também que fumar, beber álcool, café e chá é prejudicial. Advogou que deveríamos basear nossa alimentação em frutas cruas e vegetais. Apesar de as autoridades governamentais e a maioria dos profissionais médicos o ignorarem, alguns leigos e uns poucos médicos o ouviram. Hoje, Are Waerland prova estar certo em todos os sentidos. Há várias décadas se aceita que alimentos refinados são prejudiciais e se torna também cada vez mais aceito que carnes, ovos e laticínios processados são prejudiciais à saúde. Subsídios governamentais agora vêm sendo cortados para laticínios e carnes. Alguns dos médicos que seguiram os ensinamentos de Are Waerland decidiram investigar cientificamente os efeitos de uma terapia natural e dieta de acordo com a filosofia da naturopata autodidata Lilly Johansson. Após muitas dificuldades, conseguiram fundos para esta pesquisa. As 64 pessoas escolhidas para este projeto sofriam de asma brônquica, hipertensão arterial, inflamação da próstata ou infecção do trato urinário. Todas obtiveram melhoras ao longo de onze anos. Foram tratados com uma terapia natural, sendo o principal item uma dieta natural. Esta não continha carnes, ovos ou laticínios, era pobre em amido, proteína e gordura e observava diferenças individuais. Consistiu prinicipalmente de frutas cruas e vegetais. Após um ano foram estes os resultados: - Totalmente bem: 14 pacientes (22%)Much better 34 patients 53% - Melhores: 12 pacientes (19%) - Sem mudanças: 4 pacientes (4%) - Piores: 0 pacientes (0%) Isto, de acordo com o julgamento dos próprios pacientes. Houve inúmeros testes que demonstraram melhoras estatisticamente significativas. Proteínas no sangue (albumina, haptoglobina, IgG, IgM, IgE, ALAT, ASAT), uréia, SR, colesterol, triglicerídeos e leucócitos apresentaram todos mudanças interpretadas como positivas. A bilirubina caiu para a metade em um ano. Os testes de aptidão demonstraram resultados melhores, o peso foi reduzido, assim como o pulso e a pressão sanguínea. Houve também melhoras nas seguintes condições: alergias, diabetes, doenças intestinais, acne, constipação, dor de cabeça, enxaqueca, infecções, resfriados, dores menstruais, fadiga e úlceras varicosas. No grupo dos hipertensos, 26 pacientes apresentaram sintomas 96 vezes ao todo. Após um ano, seis ainda permaneciam hipertensos, mas com melhoras. Os pacientes cortaram a medicação drasticamente, 56% pararam totalmente. Estas medicações eram necessárias segundo os médicos e a ciência médica. Se não fossem administradas, foi dito aos pacientes, supostamente piorariam ou possivelmente morreriam. Esta pesquisa, única no gênero, é uma calamidade para a filosofia médica, como um embaraço para a profissão médica. Estes pacientes que estiveram sob custeio da previdência em média por onze anos e sob os cuidados do sistema de assistência médica por ainda mais tempo, subitamente melhoraram sob os cuidados de uma amadora! Métodos supostamente inúteis demonstraram a médicos e professores serem superiores aos da medicina convencional. A equipe desta pesquisa teve esperança de receber mais dinheiro para pesquisar outras doenças mas não foram disponibilizados mais fundos apesar de que estimou-se que esta pesquisa economizou ao menos 640.000 dólares em três anos para o governo da Suécia devido a menos hospitalizações e custos de assistência médica. De 1976 a 1982, o centro de saúde de Lilly Johansson teve 5.500 pacientes. Resultados básicos da pesquisa nos levam a concluir que o governo economizou 73.000.000 dólares com o tratamento destes 5.500 pacientes deste centro de saúde até fins de 1983, não se incluindo quaisquer outras vantagens econômicas além da assistência médica. Os números, no entanto, não são realistas já que os pacientes que visitaram este centro não estavam tão doentes quanto aqueles do grupo pesquisado. No entanto, somente um quinto daquele valor soma 14.600.000 dólares, que não é uma pequena quantia. A bolsa original de 70.000 dólares comparativamente parece uma gota no oceano. Muitas pessoas recuperaram a saúde após visitar o centro de saúde de Lilly Johansson, pessoas que estariam condenadas à uma vida doetia, com constante medicação. A própria Lilly Johansson, que recuperou a saúde após uma condição cardíaca ''irrecuperável'' e várias outras queixas, tem tratado pessoas doentes desde os anos 50. Ela descobriu que em geral é muito fácil, desde que se saiba como, fazer as pessoas recuperarem a saúde, mesmo que tenham sido tratadas por muitos anos sem sucesso pelos médicos. Lilly Johansson pensa ser grande irresponsabilidade impossibilitar a cura de pessoas doentes através do sistema de saúde onde o atendimento médico é subsidiado e que as pessoas que preferem terapias naturais devam custear praticamente todo o tratamento. Uma pessoa ingênua pensaria que as autoridades governamentais teriam interesse em promover métodos naturais de cura de acordo com a filosofia de Lilly Johansson, considerando a saúde e os benefícios econômicos e que a profissão médica se interessaria por aprender a curar usando métodos naturais uma vez que poderia passar a curar aquelas condições que eles mesmos qualificam de ''incuráveis". Infelizmente a rigidez e falta de abertura mental das autoridades governamentais e do sistema médico está custando às pessoas não somente sua saúde e felicidade como também suas vidas. É compreensível que não se possa ajudar a alguém em seus problemas de saúde quando não se tem conhecimento, porém, é duro de entender o por que de não se querer tomar conhecimento dos resultados destas pesquisas. Este tipo de pesquisa é rara. Um abundante número de investigações já demonstrou claramente que doenças e as mais comuns causas de morte: câncer, doenças do coração, diabetes etc., são amplamente causadas pela forma pela qual nos alimentamos e o modo como vivemos. Ambas investigações merecem mais atenção. Por quanto tempo a profissão médica se manterá ignorando suas próprias pesquisas? Quanto tempo demorará para que os médicos passem a adotar em sua prática os ensinamentos da dieta alimentar e do estilo de vida? Infelizmente para os que sofrem, a verdade está chegando muito vagarosamente. "Não tratamos doenças, mas hábitos errados. Mude estes hábitos e as doenças desaparecerão por si mesmas''.
