#  国际素食联盟 (IVU) - 世界素食大会, Goa 印度 2006

世界素食大会组办者Jashu Shah, Mumbai 致辞：

“世界素食者大会有必要在素食国度印度召开吗？”的问题曾若干次地呈现在我脑海中。

1957年世界素食协会首次来到了印度召开大会，那时印度有必要召开大会是因为印度要向世界开放自己。而现在必须召开大会是由于整个世界正在变小，人类已然全球化。人与人之间不断的相互影响，一整代人发生了改变。因为有了电视和收音机，各种文化有了广阔的交流空间--因为全球化，全世界正发生着越来越多的相互影响和交流。

传统上，至少35%的印度人是严格素食者，另外35%的印度人一星期或一月进食一次蛋/鱼或鸡肉。印度菜大多数也是素的，只有一到两个荤菜。

由于全球化，我们的年轻一代正坐在藩篱之上，他们迷失方向，因为国外来的影响，因为维肯鸡和其他一些正在印度开设的食品连锁店的强大攻势而日益丢弃素食的习惯。人类在世界上来回奔波，地球日益变小，年轻人却正渐变为非素食者。

西方国家目前的问题是如何说服人们成为素食者，而我们的情况却截然相反。我们得说服国人不要成为非素食主义者。这只有通过举办大会，研讨会等形式，邀请从美国、英国、欧洲、远东的人们过来和我们的年轻一代对话，才可能办到。为什么那些非素食者现在变成了素食者--外来的和尚会念经呀。尽管自古以来我们都是素食者，但是我们需要说服那些正在成为非素食者的人。当一个能够说服自己的人发言时，他便有能力说服其他人。这就是为什么在印度比在其他任何地方都有必要召开世界素食大会的原因。

印度是一个多民族多文化的国家，因此我向印度人民强烈地呼吁：如果西方的非素食者都已经成为素食者，这事实本身就证明了素食比非素食更有益。你们应该过来说服别人，即便是没有什么素食大会，依然应该有人过来为大家演说。

就是现在，让我们为这次大会共同努力，携起手来传播健康，为世界素食大会的成功祈祷！
