Seine Wurzeln liegen jedoch in den uralten Vedischen Schriften verankert. Es ist interessant, dass das Wort "Hindu" nirgends in den Vedischen Skripten zu finden ist. Der Begriff "Hindu" ist vage, und sogar eine Fehlbezeichnung. Der Begriff wurde von Muslims aus dem benachbarten Ausland eingeführt, die damit Leute meinten, die auf der anderen Seite des Flusses Sindhu lebten, ein Volk, das eigentlich eine weite Bandbreite von religiösen Glauben hatte. Es gibt keine einzige "Hindu Religion". Das original Vedische System ist eigentlich recht verschieden zum zeitgenössischen Hinduismus. Beide, der alte und der neue, laufen jedoch harmonisch zusammen in Betracht von Vegetarismus. Hier sind einige Zitate von der Vedas: *"Du darfst deinen von Gott gegebenen Körper nicht dazu benützen, Gottes Kreaturen zu töten, seien sie menschlich, tierisch oder was auch immer." (Yadjur Veda, 12.32)* *"Indem man kein Lebewesen tötet, wird man bereit für die Rettung." (Manusmriti, 6.60)* *"Der Käufer von Fleisch begeht himsa (Gewalt) mit seinem Reichtum; der, der Fleisch isst, tut es indem er den Geschmack genießt; der Schlächter begeht himsa indem er das Tier tatsächlich festbindet und tötet. Darum sind dies drei Formen des Tötens. Der, der Fleisch bringt oder danach verlangt, der, der die Gliedmaßen eines Tieres schneidet, und der, der Fleisch kauft, verkauft, oder kocht und es isst - alle von diesen sind als Fleischesser zu betrachten." (Mahabharata, Anu. 115:40)* **Schutz der Kühe** Laut Indiens traditionellen skriptischen Geschichten war die original Kuh Mutter Surabhi eine der Schätze, die vom Kosmischen Ozean aufgewühlt wurden, und "die fünf Produkte der Kuh" (pancha-gavya)-Milch, Quark, Ghee, Urin und Dung wurden als reinigend angesehen. Die Kuh wird ihrer Selbst als eine der sieben Mütter respektiert weil sie ihre Milch anbietet wie es die eigene Mutter tut. Die Kuh spielt eine zentrale Rolle in dem Vedischen Ideal für Menschlichkeit: "einfaches Leben und höheres Denken," ein Leben nahe zu Natur und Gott. Bis vor kurzem in Indiens Geschichte lebten die meisten Menschen auf Grundstücken, die für die komplette Selbstversorgung geeignet waren. Die Kuh spielte schon immer eine wichtige Rolle in der Wirtschaft Indiens . Zjm Beispiel diente der Kuhdung als billiger Dünger. Gelagert in unterirdischen Tanks hat er auch Methangas produziert, das zum Heizen und Kochen benutzt wurde. Kuhdung ist auch ein effektives Desinfektionsmittel, und wird sowohl für Umschläge als auch für reinigende Spülungen benutzt. Der Name der Kühe schon ist *aghnaya*, was heißt "darf nicht getötet werden." **Vegetarismus und Gewaltfreiheit** In der *Manusmriti* steht geschrieben, dass man sich allen Fleischessens enthalten sollte, weil dieses Essen Töten beinhaltet und zu Karmischer Knechtschaft (*bandha*) führt. Woanders in der Vedas wird der letzte der großen Vedische Könige, Maharaja Pariksit, zitiert, dass "Nur der Tiermörder nicht die Nachricht der Absoluten Wahrheit genießen kann." also, steht in der Vedas, dass um spirituelles Wissen zu erlangen, man erst Vegetarier werden muss. **Die Gnade Gottes** Laut den Vedischen Schriften sollte man jede Nahrung den Göttern als Opfer anbieten: "... alles was du tust, alles was du isst, alles was du anbietest und weggibst, sowie alle anderen Einfachheiten die du vielleicht begehst, sollten als ein Angebot an Mich begangen werden." *(Bhagavad-gita 9.27)* Die gita sagt auch genau was angeboten werden sollte: " Wenn Mir jemand mit Liebe und Ergebenheit ein Blatt, eine Blume, Frucht oder Wasser anbietet, werde Ich es annehmen." *(Bhagavaad-gita 9.26)* Die *Bhagavaad-gita* besagt auch, dass jemand, der sein Essen nach den skriptischen Richtlinien liebend Gott anbietet, von allen sündhaften Reaktionen und folgender Wiedergeburt in die materielle Welt befreit wird: "die Anhänger Gottes sind von allen Arten von Sünde befreit weil sie Nahrung essen, die zuerst als Opfer angeboten wurde. Andere, die ihr essen zum persönlichen Sinnesvergnügen zubereiten, essen nur Sünde. *(Bhagavad-gita 3.13)* Reste solcher ehrfürchtigen Opfergaben werden *prasadam* (wörtlich, "Die Gnade Gottes") genannt. In Indien verteilen die größten Tempel, wie Shri Rangam in Südindien und Jagannath Mandir, der Haupttempel in Puri, täglich umsonst geheiligte vegetarische Nahrung (*prasadam*) **Tiere und Spiritualität** Lange bevor Sankt Francis der heilige Schutzpatron der Tiere erklärt wurde, haben die indischen Sagen schon die Spiritualität in allen Lebewesen erkannt. Vedische Schriften beschreiben sogar Gottes Wiedergeburt in verschiedene Tiere. Einige der beliebtesten sind das Wildschwein, die Schildkröte, der Fisch und das Pferd - es gibt sogar eine halb Mensch/halb Löwe Inkarnation! ( Vedische Literatur verbreitet nicht den Polytheismus, sondern besagt vielmehr, dass derselbe Gott in verschiedenen Formen erscheint). Der Vedische Standpunkt erkennt sogar die Möglichkeit von einfachen Tieren höhere Stadien der Spiritualität zu erlangen an! Dies ist wegen dem Standpunkt, dass Spiritualität nicht auf die menschlichen Form begrenzt ist und dass letztendlich der äussere Körper nur eine temporäre Hülle für die unsterbliche spirituelle Seele ist, möglich. Der Vedas besagt, dass die lebende Seele transmigriert, von Körper zu Körper, von Art zu Art, bis es endlich die menschliche Form erreicht, ausgerüstet mit Vernunft und der Fähigkeit die Absolute Wahrheit zu erlangen. Indem man das menschliche Vorrecht ausübt, kann man den Kreislauf der ständigen Geburt und Tod beenden und das Königreich Gottes erlangen. Hier ist also eine religiöse Tradition, die nicht nur den Vegetarismus betont, sondern auch die spirituelle Gleichheit aller Lebewesen. --- **Quellen:** Diet for Transcendence von Stephen Rosen.
