 | **IVU News**   **Proteine in pillole e altre idiozie**    Di Ruth Heidrich    [**IVU News - 2001/1**](https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=article&id=6009:italian-news-2001-1-index&catid=317)  Una delle domande più frequenti che mi pongono gli atleti è “come posso assumere più proteine?” Nella loro mente pensano che ingerendo più proteine di punto in bianco i loro muscoli si gonfierebbero e li renderebbero più forti. L’obiettivo degli appassionati di culturismo è principalmente quello di avere muscoli ipertrofici (senza eseguire il lavoro necessario all’ottenimento di questo risultato!). Questa domanda è spesso posta dagli atleti vegetariani o vegani, convinti che senza carne, bianco d’uovo o latte scremato rischiano di essere affetti da carenza di proteine.   Le pubblicità sui giornali e sulle riviste di salute alimentano questa paura in modo da vendere alcuni prodotti. Gli integratori di proteine sono disponibili sul mercato sotto molte forme, sempre con lo stesso scopo: far sì che ne compriate a volontà! Ma la realtà è che se volete far aumentare il volume dei vostri muscoli dovete farli lavorare aumentando i pesi che devono sollevare: è il solo modo di fortificarli.   Il nostro corpo è concepito per funzionare in economia. Si sbarazza, infatti, di tutto ciò di cui non ha bisogno. Se avere dei bicipiti grandi non vi è utile, il corpo eliminerà questo peso superfluo. L’esempio più chiaro di tale fenomeno si verifica quando, subito dopo una frattura, il braccio o la gamba devono essere ingessati. Appena il gesso viene tolto dopo sei settimane quello che scopriamo ci sconcerta: i muscoli si sono sciolti! Ma questo effetto è permanente? No. Per ricostruire i muscoli si deve ricominciare ad usarli ed il corpo risponde riformandoli fino al grado necessario. Con un uso quotidiano si recupera rapidamente un muscolo di dimensioni normali, ma se se ne fa un uso estremo il muscolo si ipertrofizza.   Ma da dove proviene la materia prima del muscolo, le proteine, se non si mangiano muscoli di animali (proteine animali)? Facile! Le proteine provengono dalle piante. La dimostrazione più evidente è data dal fatto che gli animali più grandi e più potenti come elefanti, rinoceronti, giraffe e cavalli sono vegani! (È stato dimostrato che gli animali vegani sono quelli che vivono più a lungo, altra lezione da ricordare).   Legumi e cereali contengono delle proteine complete, cioè composte da tutti gli aminoacidi necessari per costruire i muscoli o farli aumentare di volume. Perfino la metionina, l’aminoacido che scarseggia negli alimenti di origine vegetale, è presente in quantità sufficiente. Infatti, se volete mangiare solamente del riso, diciamo una razione da 3000 calorie al giorno (apporto energetico necessario per un uomo), ne introdurrete 1,1 grammi, cioè 10 volte di più del minimo necessario che è di 0,1 grammi. Questo dimostra che se si consumano prodotti animali, il problema principale è l’eccesso di proteine ingerite, causa di malattie come infezioni renali o osteoporosi, perché il corpo non riesce ad assimilare le proteine e, quando viene sottoposto ad un eccessivo consumo, subisce dei danni. È questo il segreto per ottenere uno sviluppo muscolare. Più pesi solleverete, più forti saranno i vostri muscoli. A voi la scelta. Da quel momento ha completato sei volte la Triathlon Ironman alle Hawaii, ha corso 67 maratone ed ha vinto oltre 700 trofei, è stata insignita di numerosi riconoscimenti oltre ad essere stata eletta dalla rivista “Living Fit” come una della dieci donne più sportive degli Stati Uniti. Presidente dell’associazione vegetariana delle Hawaii, Ruth Heidrich ha scritto il libro “A race for life” (“Una corsa per la vita”) e “The race for life cookbook” (“Il ricettario della corsa per la vita”).
