I have been vegetarian for over 19 years. I have been vegan for the last 14 years. I started out being a vegetarian because I did not like meat. I continue to be a vegetarian for many reasons including ethics, environment, health (mine and others) and peace. Since becoming vegetarian I have never looked back and never felt better. I have been quite active for the cause and am currently on the Board of Directors for the Toronto Vegetarian Association ( [www.veg.ca](http://www.veg.ca/) - hosts for WVC 2000, after serving as President for 7 years. I have also served as VUNA Vice-President ( www.ivu.org/vuna ), and am currently finishing my 6th year as an IVU Councillor (the last two as IVU Chairperson). I work as a computer consultant and that puts the veggies on my plate (and allows me to go to congresses :-). I consider my real job, though, the volunteer work I do for the vegetarian cause. I have always fought for the future of \*all\* inhabitants of this planet. Since the birth of our first daughter, Sara, in June 1998 and her sister, Hayley, in January 2000, I now fight for their future as well. Shortly after Sara was born I made a promise to her. I told her I would do everything within my power to leave this world in better shape than I found it. I made that same promise to Hayley. I fully intend to keep my promise. For those interested, I am also a Toastmaster and I use the skills I have developed there to promote the vegetarian cause. - [**Message from the Chair of the International Council**](https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=article&id=5488:news-2002-chair&catid=225) (IVU News, June 2002) - [**Biographical notes**](https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=article&id=3685:congress-thai99-profiles-kevin&catid=165) - from the Thai99 Congress - [**From the Cybercafe**](https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=article&id=4268:congress-wvc96-vuna-council&catid=203) - with other VUNA Councillors at the World Vegetarian Congress, Johnstown, USA, 1996 Markham, just north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada [Personal Home Page](http://www.simplyc.com/kpickard) A note on this archive. The history section of this website is drawn from a body of legacy content originally compiled by John Davis, former manager of the International Vegetarian Union. It represents his curation of historical material, and in places includes passages written by him directly. Over the years, the IVU website has migrated between several different hosting servers. In the course of these migrations, a number of PDF files were unfortunately lost, and **some links to PDF documents may no longer function**. Where this is the case, we have chosen to leave the original link text in place, as it may itself carry information of historical value. - Hits: 1641 ## Schema ```json {"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=article&id=4343:members-council-kevin-pickard&catid=208","url":"https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=article&id=4343:members-council-kevin-pickard&catid=208","name":"Kevin Pickard — IVU International Council","description":"IVU Council member (1996-2004), Chairperson (2000-2002), Deputy Chairperson (1999-2000, 2002-2004) and Fellow of IVU.","inLanguage":"en","isPartOf":[{"@id":"https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html#archive"},{"@id":"https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html#international-council"}],"about":{"@id":"https://ivu.org/#/schema/person/kevin-pickard"},"mainEntity":{"@id":"https://ivu.org/#/schema/person/kevin-pickard"},"publisher":{"@id":"https://ivu.org/#organization"}},{"@type":"Person","@id":"https://ivu.org/#/schema/person/kevin-pickard","name":"Kevin Pickard","description":"IVU Council member (1996-2004), Chairperson (2000-2002), Deputy Chairperson (1999-2000, 2002-2004) and Fellow of IVU.","url":"https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=article&id=4343:members-council-kevin-pickard&catid=208","memberOf":[{"@type":"OrganizationRole","roleName":"Member of the IVU International Council","memberOf":{"@id":"https://ivu.org/#organization"},"startDate":"1996","endDate":"2004","description":"Represented: Canada"}]}]} ``` ```json { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "BreadcrumbList", "itemListElement": [ { "@type": "ListItem", "position": 1, "name": "Home", "item": "https://ivu.org" }, { "@type": "ListItem", "position": 2, "name": "History of IVU", "item": "https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html" }, { "@type": "ListItem", "position": 3, "name": "History of the Vegetarian Societies", "item": "https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=category&id=46" }, { "@type": "ListItem", "position": 4, "name": "members", "item": "https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=category&id=207" }, { "@type": "ListItem", "position": 5, "name": "council", "item": "https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html?view=category&id=208" }, { "@type": "ListItem", "position": 6, "name": "Kevin Pickard", "item": "https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html" } ] } ``` ```json { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "Article", "mainEntityOfPage": { "@type": "WebPage", "@id": "https://ivu.org/history-of-ivu.html" }, "headline": "Kevin Pickard", "description": "Kevin Pickard: IVU Council Member 1996-2004 IVU Deputy President 1999 IVU Deputy Chairperson 1999-2000 IVU Chairperson 2000-02 IVU Deputy Chairperson 2002-04 Fellow of IVU 2006 - Kevin at the World Vegetarian Congress, Edinburgh 2002 My name is Kevin Pickard and I am from Canada.
