Siegfried Pater,** Germany Website: [www.siegfried-pater.de](http://www.siegfried-pater.de/) Biography: Born in 1945 in Thum, Erzgebirge. Freelance journalist, author and film maker. Lives in Bonn. Studied surveying and economics. Development aid volunteer in Brazil. Founder member of many developmental, ecological and cultural bodies such as the Heinrich Böll Institute. More than 30 research journeys to Brazil, Cuba, Mozambique, China and Nepal. Producer of many books and films on fast food, nutrition, farming and ecology. Awards include the José-Lutzenberger Prize 2007. Lecture title: **Fast Food Destoys Life** Abstract: McDonald's is the biggest consumer of beef in the United States. To meet the huge demand, the biggest fast food chain of the world sources cheap meat in Costa Rica and the rain forest dies. In Europe, mainly local meat is used but the feeding troughs contain mainly soya from Brazil is fed. This high protein feedstuff is grown on devastated former rainforest land. With every bite, fast food consumers in the USA and Europe destroy a piece of rainforest and further damage the world’s air conditioning. Since then she has been preparing her dissertation in technical philosophy and working as a teacher of applied ethics and philosophy at the Technical University of Dresden and the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena. Publications: „Na so was aber auch“ (2005), „History of Bioethics (2008) Lecture title: **Rights to Personal Status and Dignity for Higher Mammals** Abstract: The majority of ethical positions are based on a distinction between humans and animals, and one species is regarded as superior to all others. This lecture argues for the attribution of dignity and personal status to higher mammals since the distinctions made rely on irrelevant and subsequently disproved principles, because there are no morally relevant qualities that can be demonstrated only by humans, because all beings affected by human actions should be the subject of moral consideration, because inherent dignity and consequent rights are accorded only humans, and because there is therefore no reason to restrict morality only to humans. He became a vegetarian 28 years ago when he travelled to India as a hippie. Today he is a teacher, writer and music producer. He gives seminars on topics such as The Art of Communication. Through his cultural projects he wants to share the knowledge and spiritual wisdom of life (including vegetarianism) with all human beings. Lecture title: **Spiritual Vegetarianism** Abstract: A meatless diet is not the ultimate achievement of human evolution. Even as vegetarians we can and should strive to achieve new and higher dimensions of non-violent nutrition. This lecture seeks to offer not just the most convincing arguments for a plant based diet, but the next steps towards a holistic vegetarian lifestyle, providing nutrition not just for the body but for mind and spirit too. Cosmopolitan lifestyle, cookery and design artist and author. Vegetarian for thirty years and mainly vegan for more than twenty years. Cooking for hundreds of people even in the wilderness. His lifestyle manual Vegane Schikane (The Complete Vegan) is regarded by insiders as something of a cult volume . Lecture title: **Milk is more than White Blood** The talk will show how the demand for alien milk changes the situation of the world. The auther discusses global strategc political aspects as well as human and animal rights, ecological, economic, health and ethical reasons. The psychological dimension is particularly important. Compassion and understanding should be more highly esteemed than scientific and theoretical aspects. Milk affects all of us and influences the climate more than most of us realise. Let's start a new life as soon as possible and help to save the world.
