With 16 million (9 percent) vegetarians in a 2012 poll, Brazil ranks second worldwide behind India’s 400 million – as long as data from China are not available. However, Brazil ranks first in Jewish vegetarians.

Dear Delegates from All Over the World,
Welcome to the 41st IVU World Vegfest and 6thAsian Vegetarian Congress, for the first time in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This is a most important gathering, and I´m happy that I came to Malaysia for the first time to attend such an impressive and large event.

Good evening everybody. It has been a great pleasure to be here. This is my second time in California. The first one was in 1995 when I came to the Vegan Festival in San Diego – and at that time I was convinced to become a vegan myself. So I am greatly indebted with California. I wish to pay back by coming here again and again to enjoy the Mecca of vegetarianism.
