'Vegetarianism is the Way'
an unforgettable visual, cultural and gastronomic experience

A Hi to everybody reading the congress biographies!

Here are two more persons introducing themselves in some very brief terms:

My mother, Dr. Hildegard Hoppe-Strobel and I, Birgit Hoppe come from Germany to participate.

My maternal grandmother converted to vegetarianism in her late twenties for medical reasons and lived up to her mid-eighties with this decision. My mother grew up with a strong interest for health, life, biology. She became a teacher for biology, geography and chemistry. She not only continued the vegetarian way of life, but also informed generations of pupils about it in her lessons, including the ethical, ecological and health aspects. In the beginning, she was quite an "exotic", but with the ecological knowledge and conscience in Germany growing, she got positive feedback from a good number of her pupils.

Now, retired, she is still active in the animal protection movement, in some groups working for a better future.

So I only had to follow the way, my mother showed me. I became a quite active member of the "deutsche reform jugend" (German youth for an alternative living) for more than a decade. However, interested in very diffent sides of life, I passed from arts to languages. (Fond of travelling with a bias for Southamerican cultures, I dreamed about participating in development projects and learned about reality living in Venezuela.) Finally I became a technical translator now doing trainings and consultings in the technical writing/translation/localization industry.

We are both looking forward to travelling to Thailand, to meeting you all there and to visit beautiful Thailand. It is the first visit to Thailand for my mother and we are going to spend one more week there after the congress.

Looking forward to meeting you there,
Birgit Hoppe
