Alex became vegetarian 10 years ago after a philosophy lecture. The point of the discussion was, "are animals and humans so different that we can do what ever we want to them?" His conclusion was that even though clear differences do exist, they are not as significant as is generally made out. We therefore should, where possible, respect their interests and above all not eat them because they taste nice. Alex is now vegan . Previously a lecturer teaching philosophy, sociology and child development, Alex has worked at the Vegetarian Society as the Youth Education Officer for nearly three years. During this time his projects have included a 20 minute video, new food poster, school talks, training days, youth section of The Vegetarian magazine and now the Kitchen Doctor, writing youth materials and resources for teachers. Working at The Vegetarian Society has allowed him to develop new skills and improve old ones. |
