Who will pay the bills?
With a new Council in place and projects in the works, VUNA
is set to promote vegetarianism as the millennium approaches--if
only we could find a new treasurer! For over a year, VUNA has
been calling for a volunteer to fill this important position
from which Madge Darneille has announced her retirement. So far,
the position remains empty and Madge has reluctantly agreed to
stay on as Acting Treasurer. Once again, then, please consider
volunteering for the job! The fundamental duties are to keep
the books, track spending, and pay VUNA's bills, as well as to
plan a budget for VUNA. You don't need to be a financial genius,
but you should have some familiarity with bookkeeping; experience
in preparing financial statements and budgets would be a most
welcome asset. The job can be done where you are--no travel necessary.
VUNA's success in promoting a strong, effective, cooperative
vegetarian movement throughout North America cannot happen without
careful management of our limited financial resources. If you
would like to be considered for this most important volunteer
position, please contact Peter McQueen at 33 Karnwood Drive,
Scarborough, ON CANADA MIL 2Z4, or e-mail him at: pmcqueen@interlog.com
or call 416/757-5609. Isn't it about time Madge got to enjoy
her retirement?
Big changes for VUNA on the World Wide Web
The Web site of VUNA has now taken its place under the umbrella
of the International Vegetarian Union and can be easily found
at: http://www.ivu.org/vuna
very close to the Web pages for the European Vegetarian Union
and the IVU. Simply browsing to www.ivu.org
will take you to an easily navigated site with links to EVU,
VUNA, and several IVU member organizations. Our site is benefiting
from spiffed up graphics contributed by professional Web designer
Bart Szyszka. The IVU Web page has an index of articles from
IVU, EVU, and VUNA publications listed by topics and a growing
collection of vegan recipes from around the world. The international
nature of vegetarianism is apparent in the language options throughout
ivu.org. A team of volunteer translators is working to get articles
and recipes into as many languages as possible. If you are fluent
in another language, you might consider offering your services
for translation. One of Webmaster John
Davis's goals is to make ivu.org a comprehensive and up-to-date
Web resource for all kinds of vegetarian information.
What's going on with VUNA groups?
VUNA Corresponding Secretary Scott Williams plans to compile
reports of notable activities of member societies so that VUNA
Views can pass ideas and inspiration on to our readers. Scott
may also give some recognition of new or renewed VUNA members.
Send accounts of your group's (or your own) noteworthy activities
to Scott c/o FARM, PO Box 30654, Bethesda, MD 20824 (e-mail:
herbivorous@juno.com).
