George Jacobs, Singapore

Biography:  Dr George Jacobs teaches courses on teaching methodology at the National Institute of Education in Singapore, where multiple intelligences is one of the subjects taught.  He is also president of the Vegetarian Society of Singapore and editor of IVU News.

Lecture title: Howard Gardner and his Theory of Multiple Intelligences

Abstract: Professor Howard Gardner is a world-renowned expert on education, best known for his theory of multiple intelligences. The purpose of this presentation is to help vegetarian activists use this theory in their public education work. Multiple intelligences theory derives its name from Gardner's claim that rather than one single form of intelligence, there are many - eight or more - different intelligences.  The key implication of this is that if we educate via a variety of modes our message will be more appealing and better understood. The presentation begins with an explanation of multiple intelligences theory and of each of the eight intelligences proposed by Gardner. Educational applications will then be suggested for each of these eight intelligences. The audience will be invited to share their own ideas.
